Safety first
Safe sleep guidance for babies
No schedule, wake window, or nap goal is more important than a safe sleep environment.
Keep the sleep space clear
Keep pillows, loose blankets, quilts, stuffed toys, positioners, bumpers, and weighted products out of the baby's sleep area. Follow current AAP and NICHD guidance for your child's age and circumstances.
Use a separate infant sleep space
The AAP recommends room sharing without bed sharing, using a safety-approved crib, bassinet, portable crib, or play yard. Adult beds, couches, and armchairs are not safe infant sleep surfaces.
Move a sleeping baby from sitting devices
If baby falls asleep in a car seat, stroller, swing, carrier, or sling outside its intended travel use, move the baby to a firm, flat sleep surface on their back as soon as practical.
Schedules do not override care
Do not delay feeding, prescribed medication, medical evaluation, or comforting to preserve a wake window. Contact your pediatrician for individual guidance, especially for premature babies or babies with health, feeding, breathing, or growth concerns.
