Age-specific sleep guide

Bedtime for a 9-month-old based on the last nap

Use the last nap end time to estimate a bedtime range instead of forcing the same bedtime after every kind of day.

Safe sleep comes first. For every nap and night sleep, follow current pediatric safe-sleep guidance. Place babies on their backs on a firm, flat, level sleep surface with only a fitted sheet. A schedule never overrides feeding, health, or safety needs.

Example calculation

If the last nap ends at 3:30 PM, a flexible final window around three to four hours might place bedtime roughly between 6:45 and 7:45 PM. Your baby's usual pattern and cues should narrow that range.

When bedtime becomes too late

A late catnap can move bedtime later. If the third nap is repeatedly refused, the family may be entering a transition in which two naps and an earlier bedtime work better on some days.

Routine versus exact timing

A calm, repeatable routine can be more useful than hitting the exact same minute. Keep the sleep environment consistent and safe.

Remember the limits

Wake windows are flexible planning estimates. Total sleep recommendations, safe-sleep practices, feeding needs, medical guidance, and your child's individual behavior take priority.
