Wake windows for a 6-month-old

Many 6-month-olds still take three naps, with broad planning windows around two to three hours.

Safe sleep comes first. For every nap and night sleep, follow current pediatric safe-sleep guidance. Place babies on their backs on a firm, flat, level sleep surface with only a fitted sheet. A schedule never overrides feeding, health, or safety needs.

A reasonable starting range

The calculator uses 2-3 hours as a broad heuristic range for 6 months. The first window may be closer to the shorter end, while the final window may be longer.

After a short nap

If a nap lasted only 20-30 minutes and your baby is already tired, the next sleep opportunity may need to come earlier. Avoid extending the clock simply to match a chart.

Three naps versus two

Most babies at this stage still benefit from three sleep opportunities, but nap length and development vary. A calculator cannot determine readiness for a nap transition.

Remember the limits

Wake windows are flexible planning estimates. Total sleep recommendations, safe-sleep practices, feeding needs, medical guidance, and your child's individual behavior take priority.
